PLEASANTVILLE, NY– They surprised everyone a year ago. This time around, Pace won’t be sneaking up on any body.

Coming off their out-of-nowhere 17-12 season last year and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2000, the Setters volleyball team had loftier expectations heading into the new year.

After eight matches into the new year, the team hasn’t missed a beat. Read the rest of this entry »

2010 Volleyball Preview

Posted by JJ Conrad on August 8, 2010

After finishing 17-12 and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in nine years, the Setters expectations should be even higher in 2010.

THE TIME IS NOW

Setters eyeing NE-10 Championship and postseason victories after going one-and-done in both the conference and NCAA tournaments

PLEASANTVILLE, NY– It was August 30 of last year and the Setters had just began the season 0-2, including a 3-1 loss to a very good Dowling squad in their first match of the year.

Despite opening the year winless at the Dowling College Tournament, then sophomore Shea Hansen remained optimistic.

“We knew that Dowling was very good, and we did pretty well against them,” Hansen said in a Setters Spotlight last year. “We still didn’t win, but when we play them again we will know what we need to work on.” Read the rest of this entry »

VOLLEYBALL SET FOR HOME STRETCH
Postseason dreams coming closer to reality with each win

PLEASANTVILLE, NY– If you told the team they’d come home last Saturday night with a split vs. Stonehill and Bentley, I’m sure many of them would have taken it.

But after surrendering a 9-3 lead in the fifth set to Bentley on Saturday after defeating third-place Stonehill the night before, Pace must feel like they let one slip away.

Despite the loss though, Pace survived a very tough two-game stretch on the road, coming out with the a very important split. Pace was ranked the #6 team in the Northeast Region last week. On Friday night, they took down #5 Stonehill. On Saturday, they fell to #7 Bentley.

“It was really disappointing [losing to Bentley],” said junior Sianna Johnson, who finished the game with 11 kills. “We gave away a lead that we worked hard for and that never feels good. We can learn from the experience though.” Read the rest of this entry »
